Gastroscoping is avaliable at your stable side. Please contact the Equus office for costs of a gastroscope.
Gastroscopy is most commonly used to look for gastric ulcers. Gastroscopy involves passing the gastroscope up the nose and into the oesophagus and then the stomach. The stomach and oesophagus are assessed for any abnormalities. Gastric ulcers are most commonly found and the exit of the stomach, and at the junction between the glandular and non-glandular regions of the stomach, so special attention is paid to these areas. To perform a gastroscopy, the horse needs to be sedated and starved overnight. Regular repeat gastroscopy is recommended for horses undergoing treatment for gastric ulcers to monitor the healing.
When buying a horse, we always advise that you have any potential purchases thoroughly evaluated by a vet. We offer pre-purchase examinations (vettings) to both existing and external clients, with simple packages and no hidden charges.
