Pre-purchase Examinations

A pre purchase examination is a recognised examination that is carried out in five stages. A limited vetting is a more basic examination and carries out stages 1 and 2 of the examination. The limited vetting is suited to youngstock, broodmares or an unbacked horse.

A five-stage vetting carries out all five stages of an examination. This is a more thorough examination suited to riding and competition horses.

Equus Vets offer both limited and five stage vetting’s as well as pre purchase radiographs. We cover a large area of Devon and Cornwall.

The price includes a telephone consultation before the vetting takes place. This ensures that the vet is aware of any concerns you may have and your proposed use for the horse. It also includes a telephone consultation after the vetting has taken place to discuss the vet’s findings and a written report detailing the vet’s findings.

VDS bloods are taken at every pre purchase examination and stored externally.

There are extra fees involved with analysing the bloods via the external laboratory.

Advanced payment is needed before any vetting is carried out.
